Direct detection systems make it possible to detect the rapid changes in posture that occur during a fall.
. Devices that detect the rapid movement itself are called accelerometers.
. If the device measures the position of the body in space, it is a topographic detector.
. Some other techniques focus on the centre of gravity.
It is interested in changes in the patient's behaviour or environment (e.g. a sudden and prolonged interruption of daily activities, no movements detected in the bathroom for a long time, etc.).
The two detection methods can be combined so as to maximise the potential of detection. One direct parameter is usually combined with sometimes more than two peripheral parameters.
